“More and Mightier than We”
While in Egypt, Israel had grown into a formidable people, or as the author states, they had “waxed exceedingly mighty.” It almost seems like Israel did not realize how powerful and intimidating they had become in the eyes of Egypt. Israel may not have realized how mighty of a people they had become, but their oppressors were well aware of their potential. The Pharoah knew that these “people” had the power to upset the status quo (the lies the devil has been telling you all your life).
Notice what the text declares, “the children of Israel are…mightier than we.” Sometimes the very reason you are oppressed is that the enemy is aware your potential. Much like Pharoah, the enemy of your soul will proactively hinder and oppress you to keep you from realizing your holy potential. And so, the task master will afflict you with burdens lest you realize your potential and get up out of the land.
Potential is a powerful thing! Jesus said, “and you shall receive power after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you.” In the Greek “power” can be translated as dunamis. The word dunamis literally means “power in potentiality.” It is a power that is given within, but it is also a power that must be manifested. In other words, the Holy Ghost is a power that can remain dormant if it is not actively expressed.
In every child of God that is filled with the Spirit, there is a divine potential to change, to become, to be transformed. The question is, are you willing to face your oppressor and demand your liberty? Are you willing to leave your comfort zone for greater promises? Are you willing to disrupt the status quo in your life for a better future? Now is the time to awaken to your potential.
This mindset can change the world of a child of God that “Gets” this Revelation and walks in it, and of those surrounding him/her!
