Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the commandment of God our Saviour, and Lord Jesus Christ, which is our hope. 1 Timothy 1:1
For whatever reason, Paul feels the need to emphasize to Timothy that his Apostleship is due to the Lord’s commandment. Despite his past (persecutor of the church) which might have disqualified him from such an office, it is the Lord who has commanded the church to receive Paul as an Apostle, his office is divinely appointed.
Maybe Paul feels the need to emphasize his appointment because Timothy, as we will see later in the letter, is struggling with his own inadequacies. Like Paul, he must have the same mindset, his calling to Ephesus is to be understood as a divine appointment.
Whom God chooses for certain callings and offices in His kingdom belongs entirely to Him. Whatever inadequacies we may struggle with, we must have the mindset, our ministry, our calling, is by divine appointment. Thus, our confidence is in the Lord, not in our intellect, skillset, or place in life, rather it is in the power of the God who has placed us in the office.
Amen! Thank you. As a woman called by God to teach and occasionally preach, I battle a lot from within and without. Thank you
Perfect timing. Thank you.
