3-2-1 from Babylon
Insights from my Easter sermon "Do You still Believe?" 1 Cor. 15:1-5
The Corinthian church stood in a pagan culture saturated with Greek philosophy, sexual immorality, idol worship, and skepticism about any future resurrection; we stand today in a prophetic moment where our culture has likewise rejected the power of the gospel. Here’s this week’s 3-2-1 from Babylon, drawn from my message “Do You Still Believe?”
3 Insights
Into this morally decaying, intellectually arrogant culture strides the Apostle Paul, a man on divine assignment. He plants the church, preaching a message that sounds like madness to Corinthian ears.
Years later, as division, immorality, and doctrinal doubt threaten to swallow the young congregation, the Holy Ghost stirs Paul to write with prophetic urgency. Notice, he does not launch into philosophy or new ideas. Instead, he takes them back to the power of the gospel.
The similarity is unmistakable: Corinth’s compromise warns us of the dangers of cultural influence. Their drift from the gospel is a type of our accommodation to culture now. Their prophetic call to hold fast is our prophetic summons to be tenacious – to be audacious – to be witnesses of the true gospel.
2 Scriptures
“Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand… by which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.” 1 Cor. 15:1-2 (KJV)
“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to everyone that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.” Rom. 1:16 (KJV)
1 Question
If the gospel truly renews and restores with resurrection power, why are so many believers drained, defeated, and powerless?
